The Process of obtaining funding involves:

  1. Checking eligibility: You can check your eligibility on the GOV.UK website.
  2. Applying for a grant: You can apply online or by phone. You'll need to provide information about your condition, the support you need, and your workplace details.
  3. Assessment: Access to Work will assess your needs and decide what support they can provide.
  4. Grant award: If you're approved, you'll receive a grant to cover the cost of the support.

From experience, this process can take several months

For Employers

UK employers can claim back some of the costs associated with supporting employees with disabilities through Access to Work. Here's how it works:

  • Cost Sharing: Employers are required to contribute a certain amount towards to cost of support, depending on the size of their business.
  • Refundable Costs: Acess to Work will refund up to 80% of the approved costs between a threashold and £10,000.
  • Thresholds:  The threshold amount varies based on the number of employees:
    • 0-49 employees: No threshold.
    • 40-249 employees: £500 threshold.
    • 250+ employees: £1000 threshold.

It's important to note that if the support also provides a general business benefit, Access to Work may seek an additional contribution from the employer.
